Maintaining your children’s teeth as well as your own is most important.

Oral care for children should begin as soon as their first teeth begin to erupt, with their first trip to the dentist occurring once all the deciduous baby teeth have erupted into the mouth (usually around 24 – 30 months of age).

First visits to the dentist are made fun for the child. We encourage parents to bring along their children when they are having their regular check-ups, so that the child can see that it is not a bad experience. We take children for a ride in our special chair, give them a balloon and show bag and count their teeth together. This is often enough for a first visit. Six months later we encourage parents to bring their children back to the surgery for a thorough examination and polish of their teeth.

We have 2 oral health therapists who have been trained in all areas of paediatric dentistry, including special methods to make the experience less frightening for the children. Gone are the days of children growing up being dental phobic. We show the children from the first appointment that a visit to the dentist can be a fun experience and that it is very important for them to have strong healthy teeth. The therapist will also offer a lesson in oral hygiene to give your child the best knowledge and tools for continuing their at home care. We also have many preventive procedures such as fissure sealant to give the children the best possible chance at a life of strong healthy teeth and general oral health.

At Oakleigh Dental Centre we cater for the needs of both young and old. We also have wheelchair access (a short 2 minute walk from Oakleigh Station) into our building and surgeries.
