FAQs About Podiatrists
If you are experiencing any of the following problems or symptoms, it’s time to make an appointment to see a podiatrist.
- Numbness, pain or swelling in one foot. Occasionally suffering from sore or swollen feet is normal (after running a 10k race or standing on your feet all day, for example), but sudden pain, swelling or numbness in one foot for no apparent reason can be a sign of a serious problem and requires a trip to the doctor.
- Nail fungus. The number of cases of fungal infection on toenails has increased exponentially with the growing popularity of nail salons. Left untreated, the infection causes the nails to become thick and discoloured, and you risk it spreading to the other toenails.
- Continuous heel pain. A variety of different issues can cause heel pain. A podiatrist will perform an exam and take x-rays to determine the root cause and develop a treatment plan.
- You think you’ve sprained or broken your ankle or foot. Your first instinct may be to visit the orthopedist, but a podiatrist has more experience treating foot and ankle injuries.
- A reoccurring case of athlete’s foot. It’s one of the most common fungal infections out there, and it can generally be treated with over the counter creams or sprays. But if the athlete’s foot keeps coming back, a podiatrist can prescribe a more effective cream or oral medication and check for possible infection.
- You have diabetes. People with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are at a much higher risk for foot problems like poor circulation, nerve damage, ulcers and infection. If you have diabetes, you should see the podiatrist once a year for a foot exam to help prevent these potentially dangerous problems.
- An ingrown toenail. You may be tempted to try and remove a painful ingrown toenail on your own or visit your local nail salon for help, but it’s safer (and less painful) to have it removed at the doctor’s office. A podiatrist can provide medication if the nail has become infected and numb the area during the removal process.
- Bunions. A bony bump that develops on the outside of the big toe joint, the condition can become increasingly painful as the bunion gets larger. An x-ray can help diagnose the cause, and the podiatrist will recommend treatment options based on the severity of the bunion.
- Painful corns or calluses. Due to thickened areas of dead skin, these common problems can become painful if the skin becomes too thick. A podiatrist can remove areas of the hardened skin to alleviate the pain or prescribe a topical medication to treat them.
- Joint pain in the foot or ankle. Even if easily treated with over the counter anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin or ibuprofen, it’s important to see a doctor determine the root cause of the pain–especially if the pain in your foot or ankle persists. The doctor can work with you to determine a long-term treatment plan.
Do Not Try to Make the Feet Presentable With a Pedicure
It is a common courtesy to visit the dentist with a clean mouth. This rule of putting one’s best foot forward extends to all situations involving sharing personal space with someone providing a service – like massages and doctor’s visits.
Now, a podiatrist will appreciate clean feet. But they will advise against getting a pedicure for their benefit for several reasons:
- When done in non-sterile conditions, pedicures increase the risk of foot infections
- Pedicures usually come with a few coats of nail polish, which can hide an existing fungal infection
- A podiatrist will need the genuine version of a patient’s feet to diagnose issues like corns, calluses and bunions
Do Not Feel the Need to Shave the Legs and Feet
Before visiting the podiatrist, let the hair on the legs and feet grow out. Hair growth is a sign of health and good blood circulation. In addition, it helps to diagnose foot problems associated with hair loss.
Keep a Log of the Symptoms and Share Them With the Podiatrist
Like any other doctor, a podiatrist will use a patient’s input to inform their diagnosis. That is why it is a good idea to log one’s symptoms. This information will help the podiatrist form a clear picture of the patient’s feelings.
While on the topic of documentation, a person should note down any important questions they may have. This way, they will remember to ask them while in the doctor’s office.
Find Out if Underlying Health Issues Are Causing the Problem
The patient should give their podiatrist a list of any medication they are on. They should also inform the doctor of any chronic health conditions that they may have. A full medical history will give the podiatrist information that may be useful in diagnosing and treating the feet.
Conditions like diabetes, hypertension, immune disorders and blood disorders can affect the health of the feet, so the podiatrist should know about them.
Find Out About Financing
Some health insurance companies will not cover the medical costs of someone who visits a podiatrist without a referral from a primary health physician. Patients should find out how much they will ultimately pay for treatment in co-pays and other out of pocket costs.
Medical History
You’ll fill out a medical history report when you arrive for your appointment. It’ll ask you questions about your current foot problems, medical conditions, medications taken, and previous surgeries. In addition, you’ll be asked about your habits related to your feet, and the questionnaire will include questions about your family medical history.
Talk About Your Foot Problems
When you meet with the podiatrist, the doctor will ask you about any foot problems you’re experiencing and how long they’ve been occurring. This is where you and the doctor can begin to establish a rapport.
Physical Examination
You’ll then undergo a physical exam. Your podiatrist will look at your feet and check for any signs of issues like fungus, warts, corns, bunions, and other similar foot problems. The doctor will look at your toenails for discolouration or brittleness.
During your appointment, the podiatrist will also check your lower legs to assess for signs of poor circulation. In addition, you may be asked to walk for the doctor so that they can evaluate you for any gait problems.
Diagnostics
Suppose the podiatrist thinks further testing is warranted. In that case, they may order imaging scans like an ultrasound, bone scan, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look for any structural issues or blood vessel blockage or narrowing.
Your podiatrist may order blood work to check for things like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or other conditions that could be causing pain in your feet. If your practitioner suspects you have an infection, they may collect a sample and send it to a lab for testing.
Treatment
If your foot issue is being exacerbated because you are overweight, the doctor may recommend that you alter your diet and exercise more to help alleviate your condition. In addition, losing weight will help relieve the excess pressure on your feet.
You may also receive medication to combat the foot problem. For instance, your doctor might prescribe a topical or oral antifungal medicine or a treatment for neuropathy.
You may also be recommended to get orthotics to help provide support if you have an issue with fallen arches. In addition, your podiatrist may prescribe a boot if you have supination or pronation, which can occur when your weight is distributed to one side of your foot when you stand or walk.
If you have any issues that involve the foot and or ankle—a sports injury, arthritis/joint pain, skin problems, etc. —a visit to the podiatrist is your best bet. A podiatrist is a specialist who manages and treats almost all symptoms that involve the ankle and the foot.
Pedorthists. Both are professionals trained to care for feet, but there are significant differences between podiatrists and pedorthists. For example, podiatrists are medically and surgically qualified to treat foot and ankle problems, while pedorthists are allied health professionals.

IN THE CASE OF TREATMENTS FOR GROWN NAILS (INFECTED TOES)
One of the most common misconceptions regarding the treatment of ingrown toenails is that it is excruciating and incapacitating. In point of fact, the treatment is administered with a minimal amount of discomfort; the procedure is carried out in the offices of our podiatrists; it lasts for roughly an hour, and the patient is able to walk immediately after it has been completed.
ORTHOTICS (FOOT ORTHOSES)
Inserts for shoes known as orthotics or orthotics are designed to specifically support, align, or improve the function of the foot in some way. These are made to provide support to the body from the foot all the way up to the head. This reduces the strain placed on the skeletal system, which includes our muscles, tendons, and joints, and helps us move more efficiently overall.
CORTISONE TREATMENTS (CORTICOSTEROIDS)
Treatments with cortisone are typically administered in order to assist with the reduction of pain and inflammation in particular regions of the body. In conjunction with a local anaesthetic, this corticosteroid medication is most frequently administered via injection into the joints of the body, most frequently the hips, knees, and ankles.

Feet First - Podiatrists Bayside, Melbourne
(03) 9589 7507
Introduction
In 1998, Feet First opened its doors for business as a podiatry clinic. Our skilled staff is dedicated to providing each and every one of our patients with the highest possible level of foot care and service.
At Feet First, we offer comprehensive podiatric care, covering everything from routine foot care to the treatment of sports injuries, ingrown toenails, and orthoses.
In order to provide patients with the most up-to-date treatment options and technologies, each of our podiatrists participates in regular continuing education classes.
In addition to our video gait analysis and custom-milled orthoses, Feet First has just recently begun utilising technology that utilises 3D laser scanning.
We are excited about the possibility of assisting you with your footcare requirements and look forwards to doing so.
Services
Medicare Patients
Medicare patients who have been referred by a general practitioner for a chronic disease management plan are welcome at Feet First.
Your eligibility for this plan will be determined by your general practitioner. If you are eligible, you may receive up to five visits.
These visits will be billed in bulk by Feet First.
Diabetic patients are frequently referred to this plan. A diabetic foot assessment, which includes a review of circulation and sensation in the feet, may be performed.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require additional information.
Warts/Verruca
Swift is the most recent advancement in wart removal technology. Swift was created in the United Kingdom and is now legal in Australia. Swift therapy employs microwave energy, which is delivered to the infected area via a probe. The tissue temperature is quickly raised to 42-45 degrees by using the microwave. When tissue is heated, it triggers an immune response in which the body attempts to destroy the viral tissue.'
The treatment is usually given 5 times at 2-second intervals. This process is repeated three times, once a month, for a total of three visits.
According to studies, the most resistant lesions can be cleared with an 83 per cent success rate.
Ingrown Toenails
Toenails grow into the skin around them, resulting in ingrown toenails. Swelling, redness, and pus can make them extremely painful. Ingrown toenails can be caused by poor cutting technique, ill-fitting shoes, genetically curved nails, or direct trauma.
Ingrown toenails can be treated completely and permanently with Feet First.
Treatment that is initially conservative can provide immediate relief.
The identification of the cause could lead to a discussion about a long-term solution to a recurring issue.
A local anaesthetic is used to perform a small in-room procedure. A small portion of the nail will be permanently removed, thereby permanently resolving the issue. The procedure is highly effective and produces a pleasing aesthetic result.
Injuries in Sports
Plantar Fasciitis/Heel Spur – Pain on the inside of the heel that is worse first thing in the morning. At your first appointment, your assessment and treatment options will be discussed.
Leg pain, also known as shin splints, is a common problem in athletes and growing children. A video gait analysis can detect feet that roll in or out excessively, resulting in leg muscle fatigue and pain known as shin splints.
Flat Feet – Symptoms of the foot, leg, knee, hip, and lower back are frequently caused by rolled-in feet. The most appropriate treatment for this condition can be determined using video gait analysis.
Stress Fracture – In high-impact sports, stress fractures in the foot are common. To confirm the diagnosis, an X-ray or an MRI can be arranged. Our practice has a variety of CAM walkers on hand for immediate treatment.
Patella - femoral pain is frequently associated with "rolled in" or pronated feet. Appropriate evaluation and treatment are readily available.
Running Injuries – Improper running mechanics can result in a variety of symptoms. Feet First offers video gait analysis, which provides a clear picture of mechanical issues. Orthotics made with the most up-to-date laser scan technology can help to balance the foot and relieve pressure all the way up the leg. Feet First has developed strong relationships with local shoe stores, and they are frequently referred to for specific footwear to aid running mechanics.
Foot Care for Children
Severe Illness – Inflammation of the growth plate, which causes heel pain. This condition is common in children aged 10 to 14, especially those who are very active. There are evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans available.
Osgood Schlatters is an inflamed growth on the patella tendon's insertion in the knee. The condition can be exacerbated by an inward tracking patella. In this case, a foot mechanics assessment and correction may be beneficial.
Some children have an intoed gait, which means they walk on their toes. The best treatment method will be determined by determining whether the problem originates in the hip, leg, or foot.
Leg Pain in Children – Leg pain in children is common, especially as they grow. The range of motion of muscles and joints, as well as foot mechanics, are useful in determining the treatment plan.
Gait Analysis for Orthotics – Feet First offers a video gait analysis with Silicon Coach Software. The mechanics of walking and running can be examined frame by frame to see what the foot and limb are doing at each stage of the gait cycle.
Laser Scanning – The Delcam laser scanner technology is now available. The foot is scanned to create a three-dimensional image of the foot. There is no need for any more plaster casting.
Orthoses – Customised orthoses are available in a variety of styles. EVA (soft orthoses), Carbon Fibre, and Polypropylene are some of the materials used.

OUR SERVICES
CUSTOM ORTHOTICS
CUSTOM ORTHOTICS TO SUIT YOUR FEET AND YOUR LIFESTYLE
A vital component of one's overall physical fitness, health, and well-being is a healthy set of feet and ankles. In order to alleviate pain and increase mobility, custom orthotics are useful devices available by prescription that support and improve the alignment of the foot.
They not only improve your posture, gait, and weight distribution biomechanically, but they also relieve the pressure that is placed on your feet and decrease the force that is placed on the joints of the foot and ankle. The personalised support provided by custom orthotics enables you to spend additional time on your feet without experiencing discomfort.
BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT
WHAT IS A BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT?
A physical examination is called a biomechanical assessment if its purpose is to determine how the body moves and how its parts work together. It identifies any areas of stress or imbalance that may be the source of your pain and helps to correct them.
At Hampton Podiatry, we utilise biomechanical assessment as a tool to assist in determining the reasons behind why a patient is exhibiting symptoms. It is a component of our in-depth assessment process that, when combined with other factors, may result in more individualised treatment outcomes.
SPORTS INJURIES
HELPING ATHLETES OF EVERY AGE, SPORT AND LEVEL TO STAY ACTIVE
Sports injuries are unavoidable. Acute injuries can sideline you suddenly, and overuse injuries can slow your performance and activity. There are treatments to reduce pain, increase strength, and help you return to sport.
The Hampton Podiatry team can treat casual players and elite athletes alike. We work with AFL, cricket, athletics, runners, netball, volleyball, dancers, and gymnasts. As lower limb specialists, podiatrists treat foot, ankle, shin, and knee sports injuries and biomechanical imbalance problems.
CHILDREN'S PODIATRY
Do your kid's legs hurt? Does your kid never fall? Your child's ingrown toenails? Can your child play sports without heel pain?
We recommend early intervention for the quickest recovery and best future outcome.
When your child limps off the field or has leg pain while sleeping, we take the time to explain their diagnosis and treatment.
Treatment can be as simple as monitoring your child's changes or modifying footwear, or an orthotic may be prescribed for long-term growth changes. The appointment will cover all options.
DIABETIC FOOT CARE
WHAT IS DIABETES?
Diabetes is a condition when there is too much glucose or sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main source of energy for daily activities, but when we cannot maintain a healthy level, short term and long-term effects can occur within the body. Insulin helps the body convert glucose into energy. However, if you have diabetes, the body produces little to no insulin, causing the glucose to remain in the blood.
TYPES:
Type 1 Diabetes – the body does not produce any insulin. People with Type 1 Diabetes will need to take insulin replacements every day. Usually diagnosed in children and young adults, although it can occur at any age.
Type 2 Diabetes – low levels of insulin are produced, or the body does not use the insulin well. It is the most common type of diabetes and can be diagnosed at any age.
FOOTWEAR ASSESSMENT
WHAT IS A FOOTWEAR ASSESSMENT?
Footwear comes in a wide range of shapes and sizes, making it difficult to find the perfect pair for you and your feet. There are factors within your own feet that can make a shoe right or wrong for you when trying them on. You should know whether you have flat arches (pes planus), normal arches (pes cavus), or high arches (pes cavus) before trying on shoes because the depth of the shoes can affect comfort.
It's also crucial to know whether your ankles pronate (roll in), supinate (roll-out), or are neutral, as this will influence the level of support you need. The width of the shoe is another aspect of a well-fitting shoe; if a shoe is too wide for you, the level of support will be reduced; if the shoe is too narrow, the skin will be irritated, and the range of motion in some joints will be reduced.

ABOUT
Over the course of the past 15 years, Athletic and General Podiatry have been providing people of all ages and levels of physical activity in the Bayside area with foot care services.
We begin by performing a comprehensive evaluation of your feet, footwear, and activities in order to diagnose the cause of your foot and lower limb problems. We then discuss these findings with you in order to ensure that you have a clear understanding of why you are experiencing pain and what treatment options are available to you.
Following the completion of your evaluation, we will then provide you with treatment and advice that is tailored to your particular requirements and way of life.
Our service is available to people of all ages, including children, seniors, and athletes of all levels.
There is no need to get a referral unless you are a DVA or EPC (Medicare) patient. If individuals who have private health insurance bring their insurance card with them to the appointment, they will be able to make a claim on the sports refunds that we offer through our HICAPS facility. In addition, we provide a concession discount for customers who are in possession of valid health care or pension card.
Our structure provides covered parking for vehicles, along with elevator service and access for people with disabilities.
Visits to customers' homes can also be arranged upon request.
SERVICES
Podiatrists who specialise in both athletic and general foot care can treat a wide variety of ailments, including common skin and nail conditions like corns, calluses, blisters, warts, fungal infections and ingrown toenails.
In addition, biomechanical issues and sports injuries are treated, including pain in the arch, heel, ankle, and knee, shin splints; plantar fasciitis; and neuromas. Treatments include biomechanical and gait analysis, orthotic therapy (custom and prefabricated), footwear assessment and prescription, and so on.
We provide arthritic and diabetic foot care assessment and management for elderly patients' ageing feet. Patients may be eligible to receive a maximum of five Medicare rebated visits per calendar year if they participate in the EPC Scheme. In-home consultations are also available on an as-needed basis.
We also offer relaxing foot massages either at the end of your treatment or as a stand-alone appointment for those who really want to treat themselves to a luxurious experience here at our spa. These are eligible for reimbursement from certain health insurance companies.

SERVICES
General footcare
Disorders of the nails, including fungal nails, corns and calluses, warts, tinea, stinky feet, and blisters, can all be treated.
Diabetes Foot Care & Assessment
Diabetes can damage nerves and reduce circulation, both of which can have an adverse effect on the feet. We offer education, evaluation, and treatment in order to monitor and manage the effects that diabetes can have on a person's feet.
Ingrown toenails
Treatment with conservative methods and instruction on proper cutting techniques are recommended in order to prevent ingrown toenails. We offer nail surgery as a permanent solution for cases in which the shape of the nails makes them more prone to ingrowing.
Healing of Wounds
We offer wound care for ulcers on the feet in order to maximise the healing process and care plans in order to prevent the lesions from occurring again.
Sports injuries
The foot and lower limb are common sites for injuries sustained in athletes. Podiatric treatment aims to quickly resolve recurrent sporting injuries by providing advice on appropriate footwear, training regimens, and, if necessary, orthotic devices.
Orthotic Therapy
The following conditions may require such an assessment and consequent treatment with foot orthoses.
- Heel and ankle pain
- Arch pain and heel spurs
- Achilles, shin and knee pain
- Stress Fractures
- Gait abnormalities and foot deformities
- Bunions
- Flat feet
Myofascial Dry Needling
An effective technique that can be used to reduce pain and increase flexibility in muscles. This is achieved by inserting acupuncture needles in 'knots', otherwise known as trigger points.
Mobilisation & Exercise
Sometimes the joints in the feet become jammed and restricted, which is a common source of pain. Mobilisation and prescribed exercises are effective methods to enable the joints to move more freely and, in most cases, relieve the pain.
Footwear advice
Footwear changes can make a significant difference to your comfort and may prevent ongoing foot problems, and we advise you on the most appropriate shoe for your foot type.
No referral is required to see a podiatrist unless:
You are a Department of Veteran's Affairs Gold care holder (or eligible white care holder)Or Referred under the Enhanced Primary Care Plan (Medicare) for people with chronic illnesses.

PODIATRIST BLACKBURN MELBOURNE
Pediatric Evaluations – For YOUR KIDS!
We evaluate children of all ages at the Melbourne Foot, Ankle, and Walking Clinic. You've come to the right place if your child has excessive flat feet, one toe crossing over another, is clumsy, pigeon-toed, out toed, walks on their toes, tyres easily, or has "growing pains."
Orthotics, both Sports & General
Orthotics, both Sports and General Orthotics, are devices that go inside your shoes and are individually prescribed to meet your needs. They are designed to correct alignment and/or reduce unwanted stresses on your feet caused by repetitive movement on hard man-made surfaces or improper foot motion.
Video/Computerised Gait Analysis
We can slow down, pause, and analyse you every movement during the gait cycle by videotaping and recording how you walk. This helps us better understand how you move and is part of the assessment protocol that allows us to determine the source of your pain or problem.
General Podiatry and Foot Care
We can treat all of your Podiatry foot care needs, including fungal skin and nail conditions, nail surgeries, corns, callous, plantar warts, ingrown nails, plantar fasciitis, and more.
Recommendation for Footwear
We can determine your foot type and how it functions using video gait analysis and a thorough foot and lower limb assessment and then recommend the right footwear for you.
We have established a dedicated team at the Melbourne Foot, Ankle, and Walking Clinic to service the Podiatric foot care needs of patrons in aged care facilities.
Sports Medicine and laboratory on-site
Our head office in Blackburn has over 1000 square metres of Podiatry clinic, sports medicine supplies, and a laboratory where you can get all of your needs met in one location.

Our individualised orthotic devices can be designed in a variety of sizes, shapes, and support features to meet your specific needs. In the end, this makes it possible for us to achieve the best results in maintaining your active lifestyle, your health, and your happiness!
In many cases, the overall treatment of conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and lower leg can be improved with the use of orthotic devices or arch supports. The goal of an orthotic device is to improve your movement in some way, whether it be how you walk, run, or function, in order to decrease the amount of excess load that is placed on the affected part of your body and to increase the amount of efficiency.
We take great pleasure in assisting children of all ages in maintaining an active, healthy, and happy lifestyle. Because of soreness, exhaustion, or pain in their feet and legs, it is not uncommon for children to withdraw from normal day-to-day activity and exercise.
As part of our role as team members in the health care system, we contribute to the evaluation and diagnosis of conditions that manifest in children's legs and feet. After that, we address the reasons why the condition is present, and we help the young patient get back to the activities that they normally enjoy.

Dr Samaras is AHPRA-registered and endorsed by the Podiatry Board of Australia to prescribe scheduled medicines for foot and ankle conditions.
Dean is a skilled practitioner who provides individualised care. He considers both conservative and surgical treatment options. He enjoys problem-solving with his patients. This approach was developed over 10 years of treating athletes, actors, farmers, dancers, chefs, doctors, nurses, teachers, and tradespeople.
Dean uses modern surgical methods to treat bunions (hallux valgus), hammertoes, Morton's neuroma, bursitis, ligament tears, tendon injuries, ankle instability, painful arthritis, bone spurs, foot fractures, tarsal coalitions, and painful accessory bones in children.
Dr Dean Samaras operates in hospitals with expert anaesthetists and nurses.
Local anaesthesia is used for minor clinic procedures. Ingrown toenail surgery, wart removal, soft tissue/joint injections, ganglion aspiration. He treats ankle sprains and foot fractures.
As an Adjunct Lecturer at La Trobe University, he teaches podiatric surgery, local anaesthesia, and pharmacology. He's a veteran clinical examiner and student supervisor. He's a Trustee of the Australian Podiatric Education and Research Foundation and has published clinical research.

About Podiatric Surgery
Podiatric surgeons have postgraduate medical and surgical training and perform foot and ankle reconstruction. State and federal governments recognise podiatric surgeons' qualifications. It's an AHPA-approved speciality (AHPRA). Health Insurance Act and National Health Act cover podiatric surgeons.
ACPS Fellows have spent years researching and mastering medical and surgical foot and ankle therapies. A podiatric surgeon will discuss conservative and surgical treatment options with each patient and recommend the best plan.
Foot surgery has a long history of innovation and leadership in podiatry. In Australia, Podiatric surgeons operate in private hospitals, leading a surgical team that includes anaesthetists, doctors, surgical assistants, and hospital staff. The surgical team works closely to ensure patient care and safety.

Nail Surgeries
- Treatment for ingrowing toenails includes having your toenails professionally cut and cared for at regular intervals. For most, this is enough to prevent the nail from ingrowing.
- For those who prefer not to attend a Podiatrist regularly, who have pain consistently, re-occurring infections, or pain when wearing shoes, we can offer a minor surgical procedure known as a partial nail avulsion. This requires a local anaesthetic for the toe, and the offending section of the nail is removed, and the base of the nail is destroyed to prevent that section from regrowing. This usually takes 1 hour. Your Podiatrist will discuss with you the postoperative care required at home. Most surgical areas are fully healed within 4-6 weeks.
Heel Pain
This is one of the most typical reasons for discomfort in the foot. The fact that your foot does not 'appear' to be injured despite the fact that you are experiencing heel pain can cause you a great deal of distress. However, our podiatrists have the education and experience necessary to diagnose this condition and devise a treatment plan that will assist you in recovering and getting back on your feet as quickly as possible.
Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs are two of the most common conditions that lead to adult-onset heel pain. Education about proper footwear, stretching routines, anti-inflammatory medication, strapping, exercise modification, and orthotics may all be part of the treatment plan.
Children are also susceptible to experiencing heel pain. This condition typically manifests itself between the ages of 8 and 13, when children become more active in extracurricular activities. In active children, a condition known as Sever's Disease, which is related to growth, can frequently cause heel pain. Your podiatrist will be able to diagnose the problem, treat it, and educate you on how to prevent it.

Services
FOOT ORTHOTICS
The majority of foot and leg problems that persist over time are due to the manner in which a person walks and runs. Foot posture has an effect not only on foot function but also on leg function, knee function, hip function, and back function. Because no two feet are exactly alike, foot orthotics frequently incorporate designs that are particular to the individual as well as the foot being treated.
TRANSVERSAL WAVE THERAPY
Shockwave therapy is being utilised by Base Podiatry in order to treat soft tissue injuries that have occurred in the foot and ankle. It is an effective treatment for plantar fasciitis heel pain as well as Achilles injuries, and it can reduce symptoms in as little as a few days.
PROLOTHERAPY
In order to hasten the recovery of damaged joints, ligaments, and tendons, prolotherapy makes use of a solution that combines glucose and a local anaesthetic. It is frequently utilised in the treatment of heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma, plantar plateAchilles tendon and ankle injuries in the foot and ankle. Prolotherapy's primary effect is to repair damaged connective tissue, primarily in the form of ligaments and tendons, which have been strained in some way.
INGROWING TOENAILS
It's a painful condition called ingrowing toenails, which happens when the side of the nail becomes embedded in the toe. Ingrowing toenails can be caused by improper nail cutting, footwear that is either too tight or not appropriate, or even direct trauma. Some people are born with nails that are involuted, which means that they grow out curled rather than flat. These nails have a propensity to become ingrown if they are not trimmed properly.
FOOTWEAR AND RUNNING SHOES
There is a lot of information, some of it accurate and some of it not, regarding the topic of which running shoes are the best. I can only tell you that there is a running shoe out there that is suited to your running style as well as the posture of your feet when you run. There is always an option available that will fit your foot, regardless of whether you want to spend $120 or $320. The following is a list of some of my prefered runners at the present time.
There is a nice variety of brands and fashions to choose from. Make an appointment if you need advice about running shoes, and we can talk about your running goals, as well as how your foot posture and running technique relate to the different types of running shoes that would be suitable for you. This list is not comprehensive, and models are continuously being updated.
